The essential, classic, forever pant. Its deep, open pockets are cut a little wider than the pant leg giving plenty of room to hold a myriad of important things like your cell phone, car keys, pens, snacks, small animals...
In a soft linen, these feel seasonless and relaxed. In a heavier canvas or wool, they are indestructible. Pair with a cashmere sweater and sneakers and wear for an entire weekend trip to the mountains, or wear them cuffed in the summer with a silk tank. Or, do what I do, and wear them all the time as very stylish pajamas that allow you to go from your couch to the real world without changing a thing.
The Clyde Work Pant is a great all-purpose pant with large, crescent-shaped pockets spanning the side of the pant leg. Unique, three-panel design results in vertical seams along the center front and back of each leg in addition to the inseam, allowing for limitless fit adjustments and style changes. Use this classic, building-block pant as a jumping-off point for a variety of wardrobe staples that will serve you well for years.
Intermediate difficulty. Suitable for patient beginners. This pattern requires understitching, topstitching, facings, and the insertion of an elastic waistband. Choose from US Sizes 000-28 and three length options with varying rise and inseam measurements.
This pattern has 10 pattern pieces in total, and can be completed in about three hours including cutting time.
Recommended Fabrics and Required Materials
Medium-weight fabrics with no stretch. Linen, cotton, hemp, in plainweaves or canvas will work well. Lighter weight fabrics will add more drape, and heavier fabrics will result in a more structured garment. Ensure that whatever material you choose can hold up in the pocket area.
-Fabric of your choice--see detailed fabric requirements here
-2” (5 cm) wide elastic cut to length for your waist
-All purpose polyester thread
-Sewing machine (capable of a straight stitch)

This was my first time following a sewing pattern. I found the instructions clear and helpful! I love the end result! This was my first time working on a creative project just for myself postpartum, and I found it to be such a happy and rejuvenating process!
I will say, this took me wayyy longer than 3 hours.

I can’t believe I waited so long to buy this pattern. Just finished a wearable toile in vintage synthetic upholstery fabric and the are just wonderful. For my next pair (currently in progress), I am using linen and only increasing the rise slightly. The crotch curve is perfect, the pockets are fun, and the top stitching looks so professional. I will never need another pants pattern. Thank you so much.
- AmyVerified Reviewer2 weeks agoRated 4 starsLove the pants, but I need the "wide Clyde" version!!
I would love to make these, and maybe if I was a more advanced sewist I would try to hack the pattern to make the wide leg version, but I sure do wish the wider leg was an option for this pattern. I've made the Harper tunic, Georgia top and Florence pant and the directions were super clear and easy for me to understand. I also tried the new canvas Clydes last year but alas I need more room around my calves to be truly comfy when I sit. I have a pair of the old ES wide Clydes and wear them all the time, so it would be great if I had a pattern for those!

A very nice, simple, and comfy pants pattern! I had to add a tiny bit to the back seam to accommodate my calves, but that’s it. Everything is easy to understand, and I love the giant pockets. I’m going to keep making these pants a lot, I already know
- NikkiVerified Buyer3 weeks agoRated 5 starsSuper Easy and Nice Pockets
This is my second sewing project ever and I was able to make these, so I feel like if I can do it anyone can. I love the pockets and sizing seemed pretty accurate.
