This is the first skirt we ever released. I feel like skirts can quickly become too feminine, and I thought that the skirt I would design would be so utterly simple that it couldn't be hard to find elsewhere. However, I realized that I myself couldn't find what I was picturing, so I created the most pared down version of this garment, nothing less and nothing more than exactly what was needed. It has a midi length to show some leg but also to provide modest coverage, a generous hem to add luxe weight and body to the fabric, and just enough gathering to add fullness and movement at the hip but to not become bulky at the waist.
Wear this at home with a soft wool sweater and socks, then swap out the socks for suede heels and head to dinner. You can also pair this with an easy tee and sneakers, and throw this on in the city for a brisk walk.
This signature ES style has evolved from our very first collection in 2013 with its high rise, wide leg, generous hem, and flat elastic waist. The silhouette is classic 1920s—inspired by the elegant, put-together-but still-a-little-sexy-and-quirky beach pajamas of the time. Shows a bit of ankle, has wonderful drape and movement, and accentuates the beautiful curve of a waist. The clean, no fuss cut strikes the perfect balance of statement and simplicity and looks just as good with a silk tank and heels as a cozy sweater and sneakers.
Fabric by the yard is cut to order and, as such, a 20% restocking fee will be applied to returns of fabric by the yard. The quantity selected will be cut as one continuous piece of fabric whenever possible, however this is *not* guaranteed.
Medium-weight, sturdy broadcloth linen that can be pressed to a neat, crisp finish or left rumpled after washing for a perfectly lived-in look. Linen possesses natural strength and durability, and it's a super friendly fiber on the environment. It requires very little processing, is hypoallergenic, comfortable in all seasons, insulating, and absorbent. Oeko-Tex certified.
Suitable for bottoms, tops, dresses, lightweight outerwear, and home decor projects.
Linen is a natural fiber made from cellulose fiber inside the stalks of the flax plant. It is a complete product of nature, and can vary drastically in color and texture based on the growing conditions of the season. Variations in base color and texture can be found even after processing and dyeing. Color will vary from dye lot to dye lot—if you need consistent color for several projects, order the yardage all at once so that we can give you one continuous cut from the same bolt.
Natural imperfections in weave are also to be expected and embraced—slubs, nubs, and occasional bits of organic matter are common in linen. If you are looking for the homogeny and perfection of a synthetic fiber or a finely woven cotton you will not find it in linen.
Fabric: Midweight Linen Fiber Content: 100% Linen Weight: 7.08 oz/square yard | 241GSM Width: 55" Certifications: Oeko-Tex Certified Care: Machine washable. Wash on gentle cycle with cold water. Tumble dry warm. Leave unpressed for a beautifully rumpled look, or press on medium heat with steam to remove wrinkles. To add some wrinkle-resistance to your material, dry iron on the highest heat before washing for the first time. Wash and dry on high heat afterward. Expect a fair amount of the lint on the first wash and dry, afterwards lint should be very minimal. For best results, prewash and press fabric before beginning a project. Our Midweight Linen shrinks up to 2% in width and up to 6% in length on average (on the first wash).
The Parabola, named for the curved hip panels on each side, features slim, long sleeves and a high boat neck that are sleek and interesting. Parabola-shaped inset panels at the sides provide body, shape, and swing that move with you. This top wears as a nontraditional A-line. I love the suggestion of shape it provides, appearing dramatic and avant-garde.
I love this billowy top paired with slim trousers or denim for a sleek look, but I'm also very into it with wide-leg pants to really accentuate the silhouette.
A longer, hip-length tank version of our essential Petra Crop. A simple, slightly A-line tank that completes so many outfits you didn't even know you wanted to wear. Perfect for a day at work or a weekend away. Layer under jackets and sweaters, or wear bare and get some sun on your shoulders. I love this piece worn with an old pair of jeans, or a simple, sleek trouser like the Andy in Midweight Linen. I think we've gotten it right with the high boat neck, slim fit in the chest with bust darts, and its separation from the body at the waist.
A generous hem provides foundational structure and balance. Carefully cut armholes hit right at the shoulder bone—revealing everything you want to show and nothing you don't. Hits at the hip for a lengthening effect that provides coverage if you want it, or tucks easily to highlight the waist for a different silhouette.
The new twin sister to our essential Petra Crop—everything you love about the Petra, but with a plunging V-neckline. Imagine weekend getaways to the coast or the mountains—wear this paired with the matching Bel Skirt for sandy afternoon walks or over the classic Andy Trouser to dinner and drinks. Simple, easy silhouette. Featuring a deep V-neck, yet slim fit in the chest with bust darts.
This style stands away from the body at the waist, edged with a generous hem providing foundational structure and balance. Carefully cut armholes hit right at the shoulder bone—revealing everything you want to show and nothing you don't. Its cropped length hits right at the natural waist and pairs perfectly with high-rise pants or skirts, and layers well over slip dresses.
