Our favorite outerwear hero, the Clyde Trench, built for cold weather (expand the "Fabric & Care" tab above to read all about the Climate Beneficial™ Wool it's made from). It's classic and weird all at the same time—a combination of our essential Clyde pocket, traditional trench vibes, and a relaxed, slouchy fit. With added swing and a large shawl collar, it has a deliciously nostalgic shape while still feeling ultra-modern. Its massive pockets carry anything you need. The beyond-the-knee length keeps your whole body warm.

Wear with the collar folded down for a sleek look, or upright for a structural shape. Leave open for ultimate temperature control; this can be a true trench or simply a layering piece. Wrap and close it with our German Silver Jacket Pin it for a totally different silhouette and to achieve wind-blocking closure.

Pocket is lined in silk and has additional topstitching to reduce bulk. Unlined.

Our model, MaryMarie, is wearing the size L/XL. Sizing is very flexible and relaxed, feel free to try sizing up or down depending on your fit preferences. Fits slightly larger than our canvas and linen versions due to the wool's inherent stretch, and to accommodate bulkier winter layers.

An immeasurably soft, heavyweight, plainweave wool that holds the shape of our garments with integrity. Gorgeous visible heathered texture—expect flecks of ivory and black throughout, these color blends give our custom-crafted shades their depth—and supple, rich handfeel. Not at all itchy, and super warm without excessive weight. Because of its moisture wicking properties, it’s sure to keep you comfortable on a brisk winter day, breathing as well as insulating.

Our wool is sourced entirely in the continental US, drastically reducing the carbon footprint of this material because it’s not being shipped across the globe. The material is Climate Beneficial™, meaning the ranchers providing our fiber utilize land stewardship practices that sequester more carbon than their operation emits. They are predominantly small, family owned ranches, and they all practice responsible land management, employ local workers, and uphold the Five Freedoms standard for animal welfare.

Our fiber is processed and dyed by a family owned dye house, spinning mill, and weaving mill, all in the Northeast. Supporting these often decades old businesses and continuing to invest in the US textile industry is a point of pride for this project. The weight, weave, and colors of our wool were all intentionally chosen and this material is exclusive to Elizabeth Suzann Studio, making each piece one to treasure.

In comparison to our previous Climate Beneficial™ Wool, this looks and feels almost identical to 2019’s “Heavyweight” weave, despite the elimination of the alpaca fiber. The Fawn color is darker and more variegated, but the Charcoal remains the same. The Olive colorway is new this year.

Hand wash with cold water and wool detergent. Lay flat to dry. For a crisper look, press on high heat with steam and a wool clapper.

*Due to wool's short staple fibers, some pilling is to be expected in areas of high friction. Use a wool brick or sweater shaver to remove pills.

    Almost perfect

I pined over this piece for so long before taking the plunge, and I’m really glad I tried it finally. The olive color, while difficult to photograph accurately, is beautiful in person and was just the warm, dark neutral I was looking for. The wool is soft, and it feels like the most luxurious robe when worn. However, I have to deduct a star because I disagree with the description that the fabric “feels almost identical to 2019’s ‘Heavyweight’ weave.” I owned a 2019 CWC Clyde Trench in fawn, and I kind of regret selling it to fund this purchase now because that fabric felt much thicker, spongier, and more plush than this new wool version, which feels like more of a midweight wool to me. That’s not to say that the current wool is inadequate or inferior—it’s lovely and warm, but I worry that it won’t keep me quite as warm in the lower temps that the 2019 CWC trench kept me the past few years. To me, this trench feels like more of a fall weather piece (at least in New England), while the 2019 Trench felt like a true winter weather piece. I am still keeping this one because I’m in love with the color, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss the previous iteration of the wool. I do enjoy the addition of the silk lining in the pockets, though I worry how durable it will be in the long run; I might be extra careful with wearing rings and bracelets or placing keys in my pockets to avoid having to mend tears in the silk down the road. I got a size L/XL, and I’d say it fits similarly…

Loved the overall style and color. Only downside is that the pockets flair out, wish that could be corrected!!
